DESCRIPTION:The human brain is renowned for its complexity\, intricacy\, an
d remarkable beauty—qualities that often inspire both excitement and app
rehension among students. This course begins by introducing the fundamenta
l building blocks of the brain and progressively expands to examine their
interconnections. To accommodate a broad range of learners\, the course is
structured to offer multiple levels of engagement\, making it accessible
to both beginners and advanced PhD students. We will also explore how brai
n size relates to its structural components\, emphasizing the brain’s hi
ghly interconnected nature. A central theme of the course is the relations
hip between brain structure and function. We will investigate how anatomic
al features underpin normal behavior and how alterations contribute to neu
rodegenerative diseases. This includes a systems-level examination of vari
ous sensory modalities.By the end of this five-lecture series\, participan
ts will be equipped with the foundational knowledge needed to engage with
contemporary neuroscience research and to understand how specific brain st
ructures contribute to diverse scientific questions.
