KlarText Prize goes to young researcher Felix Glang
To the point:
- KlarText Prize in the category of physics awarded to former postdoctoral researcher Felix Glang from the High-Field Magnetic Resonance research department
- Award recognizes clear presentation of his scientific work
- Physicist makes important contribution to science communication
The Klaus Tschira Foundation has awarded the KlarText Prize for science communication in Heidelberg. Among the eight young researchers honored was physicist Felix Glang, who was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics and has since taken up an assistant professorship at Graz University of Technology. Every year, the foundation honors young researchers who are able to explain their work in a clear, understandable, and accessible way.
Communicating physical concepts in an understandable way
Felix Glang's research has contributed to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) being able to deliver sharper images in less time in the future. In his article submitted to the Klaus Tschira Foundation, he explained the physical processes involved and why his contribution is an important step toward more accurate diagnoses in a clear, concise, and scientifically sound manner.
Important contribution to science communication
At the award ceremony, the foundation emphasized how important good science communication is for society.
“We want to encourage young scientists to share their research and their enthusiasm for it with society,” said Verena Viarisio, funding officer for science communication at the Klaus Tschira Foundation. “The young people honored here have communicated in an entertaining way and on an equal footing, inviting people to talk about research.”
